[OTT뉴스=박정현 OTT 평론가] 넷플릭스 켜서 가장 오래 하는 고민은 바로 '무엇을 봐야 할까'이고, 가장 빠른 선택은 한국의 Top10 TV 프로그램 중 하나를 택하는 것이다.

허나 단지 1위라는 이유에서 <고요의 바다>를 택한 것만은 아니다.

우리나라에서 만든 SF 드라마이자 '퀄리티'를 두고 이런저런 이야기가 나오는 '논란의 작품'이니까.

요근래 특히 SF 장르에 대한 반응이 뜨겁다.

한때 '타임슬립물', '좀비물'이 마구 쏟아져 나왔던 것처럼 SF 영화나 드라마가 많이 나오고 있고, 이들에 대한 주목도 역시 높은 편이다.

특히나 한국에서 만든 '우주를 배경으로 한' 드라마라니... 몇 년 전만 해도 상상조차 하지 못했던 시도라서 기대감을 가진 이도, 불안함을 품은 이도 있을 것이다.

필자의 경우 '불안함'에 가까웠다.

이미 영화 <승리호>를 통해 우주를 배경으로 한 SF 영화를 만들어낼 수 있는 우리나라의 기술력을 확인했으나, 스토리는 아쉬움이 남았었다.

이제는 '고질적이다'라고 표현해도 될 법한 K-신파적 요소를 강조하기 위해 사건보다 설명 위주로 서사가 구성돼 '그저 그런 스토리'로 남았다.

국내에서는 여전히 '성공요소'로 손꼽히는 '가족' 서사... 극한 상황에서 누구 하나를 희생시키고 그 장면을 길게 끌어 결국 '최루성 눈물'을 유발하고야 마는 연출은 너무도 식상해 눈물조차 나지 않는다.

영화 <곡성>에서처럼 딸을 구원하기 위한 아버지의 고군분투를 보여주는 정도의 가족 서사는 괜찮다.

"울어라" 식의 연출이 없고. 상황적 긴박감이 잘 전해지도록 사건을 구상하고 그 안에서 캐릭터의 행동, 말을 통해 메시지를 잘 전달했기 때문이다.

필자가 불편해 하는 건 괜히 추가되는 독백, 장면을 '느릿하게' 잡으면서 괜히 얼굴이나 눈빛이나 손끝을 클로즈업하는 등 모두가 다 아는 그런 클리셰들이다.

<고요의 바다>도 <승리호>의 전적이 있어서 혹시나 SF라는 익숙지 않은 장르를 시청자에게 잘 전달하겠다는 목적으로 '잘못된' 신파가 투입되는 건 아닐까 몹시도 불안했다.

결론부터 말하자면 애석하게도 '가족'을 중심으로 한 '신파 요소'는 존재했다.

스포일러를 최대한 피하는 형태로 간략하게 소개하자면 <고요의 바다>는 물 부족 사태로 지구가 황폐해진 근미래를 배경으로, 각자의 목적을 갖고 특수임무에 투입된 대원들의 이야기다.

불의의 사고로 폐쇄된 연구기지에서 24시간 안에 중요 샘플을 회수해야 하는 것이 이들의 주 업무로 드라마의 배경은 달에 자리 잡은 발해기지다.

대장인 한윤재(공유 분)는 딸의 건강을 위해, 박사 송지안(배두나 분)은 언니 죽음의 비밀을 풀기 위하여 임무에 임했다.

이런 배경뿐만 아니라 중요 샘플과 얽힌 '비밀'에도, 비밀에 가까이 다가갈수록 늘어나는 희생에도 '가족 감성'이 얽혀 있다.

'가족 감성'이라고밖에 표현할 수 없는 끈끈함... 드라마의 재미와 몰입도를 살리기 위한 부수적인 요소라면 좋았겠지만 그렇기에는 가족 감성이 영화 내내 너무 진하게 느껴졌고, 가족 감성을 살리기 위해 삽입된 장면들 때문에 좀 더 재밌을 수 있는 '사건'들을 놓쳤다.

<고요의 바다>를 끌고 가는 미스터리는 크게 세 가지다.

ㆍ 과거 발해 기지에서 발생한 대원 몰살의 사유
ㆍ 정예 대원들이 회수해야 만 하는 '중요 샘플'의 정체
ㆍ 현시점에 갑작스럽게 발생하기 시작한 죽음의 이유

드라마 시작점에서부터 절정까지 이 세 가지 질문에 대한 실마리를 조금씩 흘리며 공포와 미스터리를 증폭시켰다가 진실이 밝혀지는 찰나에서 단숨에 결말로 향했을 때 몰입도가 높아지는데, 이 드라마는 초기 작업에서 실패했다.

특히나 집중도를 높여야 할 도입부에서 설명적인 장면이 많아서 필자의 경우 흥미 없는 상태로 멍하니 보다가 3회가 넘어서야 집중할 수 있었다.

1, 2화의 경우 드라마적 배경과 송지안(배두나 분) 개인에 대한 설명을 너무도 길게 했고 대원들이 모이는 장면에서 '그닥 재밌지 않은' 유머 드립을 치는 것에 너무 많은 시간을 할애해버린 탓이다.

그 뒤로도 흥미로운 포인트는 분명 있었으나 캐릭터를 잘 활용하지 못하고 설명 위주로 장면이 구상되어 크게 매력적인 장면은 없다.

그러면 이걸 보라는 거냐, 말라는 거냐 답답한 분에게 딱 한 줄 평으로 필자의 마음을 전하겠다.

'빛'나던 발상과 아이디어가 캐릭터와 구성을 덧입은 순간 '빛'을 잃어버린 SF 드라마.

SF 고증에 관한 아쉬움을 전하는 리뷰나 기사도 많지만 스토리와 캐릭터를 중심으로 콘텐츠를 감상하는 입장에서는 발상과 아이디어가 참으로 아까웠다.

발상이 이 드라마의 핵심이자 전부여서 일부러 빼고 소개했으니 볼 생각 있다면 기사나 리뷰를 더 이상 찾아보지 않고 곧장 넷플릭스로 접속하도록.

Where are the brilliant ideas? <The Silent Sea> that lost the light

The longest worry after turning on Netflix is ​​'what to watch', and the quickest choice is to choose one of Korea's Top 10 TV shows.

However, I did not choose <The Silent Sea> just because it was ranked number one.

Because it is a sci-fi drama made in Korea and a 'controversial work' in which various stories are told about 'quality'.

Recently, the reaction to the SF genre has been hot.

Just as 'time-slip stuff' and 'zombie stuff' were pouring out at one time, there are a lot of sci-fi movies and dramas, and their attention is also high.

In particular, a Korean-made 'space-based' drama... Since it was an attempt that was unimaginable even a few years ago, there are those who have high expectations and those who have anxiety.

In my case, it was close to 'anxiety'.

Through the movie <Space Sweepers>, we have already confirmed Korea's technological prowess to create a sci-fi movie set in space, but the story was a bit disappointing.

Now, in order to emphasize the K-new elements that can be described as 'endemic', the narrative is composed mainly of explanations rather than events, leaving it as 'just such a story'.

The narrative of 'family', which is still considered a 'success factor' in Korea... In extreme situations, sacrificing someone and dragging the scene for a long time, eventually causing 'tear tears', is so boring that I can't even cry.

As in the movie <Wailing>, a family narrative that shows the struggle of a father to save his daughter is fine.

There is no "cry" type of directing. This is because the event was conceived to convey the sense of urgency of the situation and the message was delivered well through the actions and words of the characters within it.

What makes me uncomfortable are monologues added for nothing, clichés that everyone knows, such as close-ups of faces, eyes, or fingertips while capturing the scene 'slowly'.

<The Silent Sea> also had a record of <Space Sweepers>, so I was very worried that the 'wrong' new wave might be put in to deliver the unfamiliar genre of sci-fi to viewers.

In conclusion, sadly, there was a 'new wave element' centered on 'family'.

To briefly introduce spoilers as much as possible, <The Silent Sea> is a story of crew members who are assigned to special missions with their own goals, set in a near future where the earth has been devastated by a water shortage.

Their main task is to retrieve important samples within 24 hours from a research base that has been closed due to an accident.

Captain Han Yun-jae (Gong Yoo) is on a mission to protect her daughter's health, and Dr. Song Jian (Bae Doo-na) is on a mission to unravel the mystery of her older sister's death.

In addition to this background, 'family sensibility' is entangled in the 'secret' that is intertwined with important samples, and the sacrifices that increase the closer you get to the secret.

The stickiness that can only be expressed as 'family sensibility'... It would have been nice if it was an incidental element to save the fun and immersion of the drama, but for that, the family sensibility was felt too deep throughout the movie, and the scenes inserted to save the family sensibility I missed 'events' that could be more interesting.

There are three main mysteries that drive <The Silent Sea>.

ㆍ Reasons for the extermination of crew members at the Balhae base in the past
ㆍ The identity of the 'important sample' that the elite crew must recover
ㆍ The cause of death that started to occur suddenly at the present time

From the beginning to the climax of the drama, she sheds little clues about these three questions and amplifies the horror and mystery, but when the truth is revealed at once to the ending, the immersion increases, but this drama failed in its initial work.

In particular, there are a lot of explanatory scenes in the intro, where you need to increase your concentration, so in my case, I was able to concentrate after 3 episodes after watching it blankly.

In the case of episodes 1 and 2, the explanation of the dramatic background and individual Song Ji-an (Bae Doona) was too long, and too much time was wasted on dripping 'not so funny' humor in the scene where the crew members gather.

After that, there were certainly interesting points, but the characters were not used well and the scenes were designed mainly for explanation, so there are no very attractive scenes.

Then, to those who are frustrated with whether to watch this or not, I will convey my feelings with just one comment.

A sci-fi drama that loses its 'light' when ideas and ideas that used to be 'light' are added to the character and composition.

There are many reviews and articles that convey the regrets about historical SF, but the ideas and ideas were really precious from the standpoint of appreciating the content centered on the story and characters.

The idea is the core and all of this drama, so I deliberately omitted it and introduced it.

きらびやかなアイデアはどこに？ 光を失った＜静かなる海＞

Netflixをオンにして最も古い悩みはまさに「何を見るべきか」であり、最速の選択は韓国のTop10 TV番組の一つを選ぶことだ。

しかし、ただ1位という理由で「静かなる海」を選んだだけではない。

韓国で作ったSFドラマイザ「クオリティ」を置いて、いろいろな話が出る「論争の作品」だから。

最近では特にSFジャンルに対する反応が熱い。

かつて'タイムスリップ'、'ゾンビ水'が溢れ出てきたようにSF映画やドラマがたくさん出ていて、これらに対する注目もやはり高い方だ。

特に韓国で作った「宇宙を背景にした」ドラマだと…数年前だけでも想像すらできなかった試みなので、期待感を持った離島、不安さを抱く人もいるだろう。

筆者の場合、「不安さ」に近かった。

すでに映画<スンリホ>を通じて宇宙を背景にしたSF映画を作り出すことができる韓国の技術力を確認したが、ストーリーは残念が残った。

今は「高質的だ」と表現してもよい法的なK-神派的要素を強調するため、事件よりも説明中心に叙事が構成され、「ただそんなストーリー」として残った。

国内では依然として「成功要素」に数えられる「家族」叙事詩…極限の状況で誰かを犠牲にしてその場面を長く引きつけ、結局「催涙性涙」を誘発しなければならない演出はあまりにも食傷して涙すら出ない。

映画<曲城>のように娘を救うための父の苦軍奮闘を見せるほどの家族叙事は大丈夫だ。

「泣きなさい」式の演出がなくて。状況的緊迫感がよく伝わるように事件を構想し、その中でキャラクターの行動、言葉を通じてメッセージをよく伝えたからだ。

筆者が不快にするのは、まったく追加される独白、シーンを「ゆっくり」と捉えながら、まったく顔や目つきや指先をクローズアップするなど、誰もが知っているそんなクリシェたちだ。

<静かなる海>も<スンリホ>の戦績があって、もしかしたらSFという馴染みのないジャンルを視聴者によく伝えるという目的で'間違った'神派が投入されるのではないかとても不安だった。

結論から言えば、愛情にも「家族」を中心とした「シンファ要素」は存在した。

スポイラーを最大限避ける形で簡単に紹介すると、「静かなる海」は水不足事態で地球が荒廃した近未来を背景に、各自の目的を持って特殊任務に投入された隊員たちの話だ。

不意の事故で閉鎖された研究基地で24時間以内に重要なサンプルを回収しなければならないのが、彼らの主な業務でドラマの背景は月に位置した渤海基地だ。

大将のハン・ユンジェ（共有）は娘の健康のため、博士ソン・ジアン（ペ・ドゥナ）は姉死の秘密を解くために任務に臨んだ。

このような背景だけでなく、重要なサンプルともつれた「秘密」にも、秘密に近づくほど増える犠牲にも「家族感性」が絡み合っている。

「家族感性」としか表現できない粘り強さ…ドラマの楽しさと没入度を生かすための付随的な要素であればよかったが、それには家族感性が映画を通してとても濃く感じられ、家族感性を生かすために挿入されたシーンたちのためにちょっともっと面白いことができる「事件」を逃した。

<静かなる海>を引っ張っていくミステリーは大きく3つだ。

・過去渤海基地で発生した隊員の殺害の理由
・精鋭隊員が回収しなければならない「重要サンプル」の渋滞
・現時点で突然発生し始めた死の理由

ドラマの始点から絶頂まで、この3つの質問に対する糸口を少しずつ流しながら恐怖と謎を増幅させたが、真実が明らかになる瞬間から一気に結末に向かった時、没入度が高くなるが、このドラマは初期作業で失敗した。

特に集中度を高めなければならない導入部で説明的な場面が多く、筆者の場合は興味のない状態でぼんやりとしたので、３回を超えてこそ集中できた。

1、2話の場合、ドラマ的背景とソン・ジアン（ペ・ドゥナ）個人の説明をあまりにも長くし、隊員たちが集まるシーンで「あまり面白くない」ユーモアのドリップを打つことにあまりにも多くの時間を割いてしまったためだ。

その後も興味深いポイントは明らかだったが、キャラクターをうまく活用できず、説明中心にシーンが構想され、大きく魅力的なシーンはない。

それでは、これを見ろというのか、マラというのか苦しい方にぴったり一行評で筆者の心を伝える。

「光」出た発想とアイデアがキャラクターと構成を付け加えた瞬間、「光」を失ったSFドラマ。

SF考証に関する物足りなさを伝えるレビューや記事も多いが、ストーリーとキャラクターを中心にコンテンツを鑑賞する立場では発想とアイデアが本当に惜しかった。
