고요의 바다 세계관은 코로나19를 겪지 않은 평행우주임이 분명하다.

만약 그들이 코로나19를 겪은 이후의 세대였다면, 마스크 착용 및 거리두기 등의 방역수칙 준수로 작 중과 같은 비극은 절대 일어나지 않았을 테니까.

작품을 보는 내내 머릿 속에 드는 생각은 "제발 마스크 쓰고 방역수칙 준수 좀 해주세요"였다.

24일 오후 5시 넷플릭스 8부작 드라마 '고요의 바다'가 공개됐다. 크리스마스 이브와 크리스마스 연휴로 공개 직후 큰 주목을 받지 못하는 모습이었으나 26일부터 오늘 한국의 TOP 10 콘텐츠 1위로 올라서며 순위를 유지 중이다.

■ 물 부족, 등급으로 나눠지는 인간의 존엄성

가상의 지구, 근미래인 2075년을 배경으로 하는 고요의 바다는 세계적 '물 부족' 현상으로 인해 심각한 위기를 겪는 지구를 담았다.

인간을 등급으로 나누고 그에 맞춰 물이 차등 배급되는 세상, 물 배급소 앞에 줄 선 이들 옆으로 '등급제 폐지'를 주장하는 프롤레타리아들의 외침, 황색 필터를 끼고 바라보는 디스토피아의 모습은 종의 멸망을 앞둔 절망적인 상황을 고스란히 비춘다.

모든 국가들이 생존에 있어 필수적 자원인 '물' 확보에 혈안이 돼 있는 와중 송지안 박사(배두나 분)를 포함한 한윤재 탐사대장(공유 분) 등 다수의 팀원들이 달에 위치한 발해 기지에서 특수한 '샘플'을 찾아 귀환하는 미션을 받게 되면서 본격적인 이야기가 시작된다.

■ 베테랑인지 아마추어인지

달로 떠난 탐사 대원들은 분명 각 분야의 전문가들로, 엘리트 훈련 코스를 밟아온 내로라하는 인재들이다.

그러나 극 초반부터 지극히 아마추어적인 대처를 보여주면서 대원들의 자질에 의심을 품게 한다.

발해 기지 초입에서 발견된 익사체, 물이 존재할리 없는 장소에서 익사해 죽은 시체를 보며 초 엘리트 대원들은 의문을 품기보단 "행복하게 죽었겠구만"이라는 어이가 없는 대사를 내뱉는다.

그뿐만이 아니다. 무려 '우주생물학자'인 송지안 박사는 발해 기지에 도착하자마자 방사능 수치가 정상이라는 얘기에 냅다 헬멧을 벗어버리는 패기를 보여준다. 아무리 한때 연구목적의 시설로 운영됐던 기지라고 하나 사람이 살지 않게 된 지 5년이 넘는 시간이 흘렀다.

어떤 위험 요소가 있을지도 모르는 상황임에도 자진해서 헬멧을 벗고는 탐사대장인 한윤재를 향해 도발적인 태도를 취한다. 경쟁이 아니라 서로 협력해 '샘플'을 무사히 지구까지 가지고 와야 하는 미션이란 사실을 잊어버린 걸까?

탐사대장의 지시를 어기고 단독 행동을 하는 모습은 그나마 양호한 수준이라고 느껴질 만큼, 극 중 대원들의 팀워크나 대처능력 등 너무나 무방비한 모습 일색에 시청자는 "대체 왜?"라는 질문이 머릿속에서 떠나지 않는다.

심지어 익사가 사인으로 보이는 수십 구의 시체를 발견했음에도 이들은 아무런 안전 대응을 취하지 않고 탐사를 계속한다.

■ 제발 방역수칙 좀 지켜주세요

샘플 수집 도중 의문의 물질에 노출된 '공수찬(정순원 분)'은 불가사리가 보이는 환각에 시달리다 쓰러진다. 한눈에 보기에도 어디가 아픈 게 분명해 보이는데 동지애 넘치는 대원들은 절대 그의 곁을 떠나지 않는다.

지금이라면 이들은 코로나19 감염자 밀접 접촉자로 분류돼 2주간 자가 격리됐을 것이다.

팀 닥터인 홍가영(김선영 분)이 도착하기 무섭게 다량의 물을 토하는 공수찬. 얼핏 영화 에일리언에서 숙주의 몸을 뚫고 나온 체스트 버스터의 모습이 겹쳐 보이기도 한다.

홍 닥터는 기도 확보를 위해 메스로 공수찬의 목을 가르고 기관 내 삽관을 시도하나 관을 통해 솟구치는 것은 숨이 아닌 물이다. 난생 처음 보는 상황에 공포와 당혹감이 치솟는다.

공수찬을 살리기 위해 안간힘을 쓰는 홍 닥터와 이를 유리 벽 하나 사이에 두고 지켜보는 대원들은 여전히 방역복도, 마스크도 하지 않은 상태다. 앞서 목격한 익사체에 대한 정보는 이미 머릿속을 떠난 지 오래다.

이들은 쉴 새 없이 물을 토하게 만드는 저 것의 존재가 무엇인지, 감염 경로나 원인이 무엇인지 파악하지 못했음에도 방역복, 마스크 내지는 헬맷 등 최소한의 보호 수단 마련은커녕 죽어가는 사람을 보며 안타까워하는 게 전부다.

뒤늦게서야 방역복과 화생방 방역 마스크를 착용하지만 소 잃고 외양간 고치는 행태로밖엔 보이지 않는다.

■ '감염'을 위해 어쩔 수 없는 장치였겠지만

2017년 개봉했던 영화 에일리언: 커버넌트에서도 이와 흡사한 장면이 있다. 지구의 황폐화로 인류가 거주 가능한 타 행성으로 향하던 함선이 갑작스러운 우주폭풍을 맞이하며 자동주행을 멈추게 된다.

냉동 수면에 빠져들어 앞으로 몇 백 년을 더 잠든 뒤 원 목적지로 향하느냐 마느냐를 두고 부딪치던 대원들은 '지구와 흡사한 환경의 행성'을 아주 우연히 마주하게 된다.

본래 목적지를 가기보단 탐사라도 한 번 해보자는 의견이 우위를 차지하며 소수의 대원들이 낯선 행성으로 떠난다. 그리고 대기 환경이 지구와 비슷하다는 이유로 헬멧을 벗는 실수를 범한다.

대원 중 일부는 곧바로 생명체의 몸을 숙주로 하는 기생 생명체에 오염되고 대원들은 함선 전체를 위험에 빠트리게 된다.

고요의 바다나 에일리언이나 극의 진행을 위해 대원들을 위험에 노출시킬 수밖에 없었겠지만 좀 더 개연성 있는 방법을 택했더라면 어땠을까? 한편으론 편하고 빠른 길을 고른 작가의 한계로 보이기도 한다.

■ 월수(月水)란 무엇인가?

인류 생존의 열쇠를 쥔 '월수(月水)'는 달에서 발견된 자원이다.

분자구조는 다르지만 물과 유사한 모습, 특성을 지니고 있는데 결정적인 다른 점이 있다면 생명체 내부에서 끝없이 분열하며 기하급수적으로 늘어난다는 것이다. 숙주가 생명 활동을 멈추면 월수도 움직임을 멈춘다.

감염 경로는 아마도 '눈'. 발해 기지 이곳 저곳에 그려진 눈의 그림과 공수찬의 눈에 익사체로부터 뿜어져 나온 의문의 물체가 들어간 후 증상이 발현된 점. 류태석(이준 분)의 눈에 월수가 들어간 후 감염된 점, 금붕어의 눈에 월수를 넣은 점 등을 미뤄보아 눈을 통해 감염 매커니즘이 작용하는 것으로 보인다.

또한 피와 만나도 분열을 계속한다. 송지안의 피와 결합해 점점 분열하며 부피를 키웠던 것과 이 원(차래형 분)의 절단된 팔에서 뿜어져 나온 피와 반응해 발해 기지 전체를 월수로 가득 채운 점을 볼 때 피와의 반응이 가장 극렬하게 일어나는 걸로 추정된다.

다만 의문인 것은 처음 사망했던 공수찬의 체내 혈액은 모두 물로 변화했으나 바닥을 적실 정도로만 월수가 분열하고 말았다. 그러나 과다출혈로 인해 사망한 이 원으로 인해 월수는 분열을 계속해 거대한 기지를 가득 채운다. 두 케이스에 어떤 차이가 있는지는 미스터리다.

월수를 인간에 적용시킬 순 없지만 인간을 월수에 적용시킬 수 있었던 유전자 변형 기술의 발전 또한 의문이다.

월수 하나로 5년을 식량 없이 살아 남고, 깊은 상처도 치료할 뿐 아니라 산소가 없는 달 표면에서 멀쩡히 살아 있는 생명체를 만들어 낸 기술이 물이라고 못 만들었을까 싶은 것이다.

우주에서 제일 많은 원소가 수소, 헬륨, 산소, 탄소, 네온, 철 순서다. 지구 상공 400km 지점에서 매일 지구를 16바퀴씩 돌고 있는 국제우주정거장(ISS)에서는 태양광 패널을 이용해 호흡에 필요한 산소를 만들고, 이산화탄소와 수소로 마실 물을 만들어낸다.

수소와 이산화탄소를 결합시키면서 물(H2O)과 메탄(CH4)이 발생하는데, 이 메탄은 활성탄으로 흡착하고, 물은 마시거나 씻는데 활용한다. 고요의 바다 세계의 기술력으로는 적어도 마실 물이라도 만들어내는 게 어려웠을까? 이쯤되면 제대로 된 과학 자문을 구했는지도 의문이다.

시각적인 만듦새는 거의 지적할 곳이 없을 정도로 훌륭하지만 스토리와 설정에 난 구멍은 승리호 때와 비슷한 기시감이 느껴지는 작품이다.

「静かなる海」の世界観は、コロナ19を経験しなかった平行宇宙に明らかだ。

もし彼らがコロナ19を経験した後の世代だったなら、マスク着用や距離を置くなどの防疫規則の順守で作中のような悲劇は絶対起きなかったはずだから。

作品を見ながらずっと頭の中に浮かんだ考えは「どうかマスクをして防疫規則を遵守してください」だった。

24日午後5時ネットフリックス8部作ドラマ「静かなる海」が公開された。 クリスマスイブとクリスマス連休で、公開直後はあまり注目されなかったが、26日から今日、韓国のTOP10コンテンツのトップに躍り出て、順位を維持している。

■水不足·クラス分けされる人間の尊厳

仮想の地球、近未来の2075年を背景とする 静かなる海、世界的な「水不足」現象により深刻な危機に瀕している地球が描かれている。

人間を等級に分け、それに合わせて水が差等配給される世の中、水配給所の前に並んだ彼らの横に「等級制廃止」を主張するプロレタリアたちの叫び、黄色フィルターをかけて眺めるディストピアの姿は種の滅亡を控えた絶望的な状況をそのまま映す。

すべての国が生存に欠かせない資源である「水」の確保に血眼になっている中、ソン·ジアン博士（ペ·ドゥナ扮）を含むハン·ユンジェ探査隊長（コン·ユ扮）ら多数のチーム員が月に位置する渤海基地から特殊な「サンプル」を探して帰還するミッションを受けるようになり、本格的なストーリーが始まる。

■ベテランかアマチュアか

月に向かった探査隊員たちは、確かに各分野の専門家で、エリート訓練コースを踏んできた有望な人材だ。

しかし、劇の序盤から極めてアマチュア的な対処を見せ、隊員の資質に疑いを抱かせる。

渤海基地の入口で発見された溺死体、水が存在するはずのない場所で 水死した死体を見て、超エリート隊員たちは疑問を抱くよりも、「幸せに死んだだろうな」と言う。

それだけではない。なんと'宇宙生物学者'であるソン·ジアン博士は渤海基地に到着するやいなや放射能数値が正常だという話にすぐヘルメットを脱いでしまう覇気を見せてくれた。 いくら一時、研究目的の施設として運営された基地とはいえ、人が住まなくなって5年以上の時間が流れた。

どんな危険要素があるかも知れない状況にもかかわらず、自らヘルメットを脱いで探査隊長のハン·ユンジェに向かって挑発的な態度を取る。 競争ではなく、互いに協力して「サンプル」を無事に地球まで持ってこなければならないミッションだということを忘れてしまったのか。

探査隊長の指示に背いて単独行動をする姿は、それさえも良好な水準だと感じられるほど、劇中の隊員たちのチームワークや対処能力など、あまりにも無防備な姿一色で視聴者は「一体なぜ？」という質問が頭から離れない。

さらに、溺死が死因と見られる数十体の遺体を発見したにもかかわらず、彼らは安全対応を取らず探査を続ける。

■ どうか防疫守則を守ってください。

サンプル収集中に謎の物質にさらされたカン·スチャン（ゾョン·スンウォン扮）はヒトデが見える幻覚に悩まされ倒れる。 一見どこかが痛いように見えるが、同志愛に満ちた隊員たちは絶対彼のそばを離れない。

今なら、彼らはコロナ19感染者密接接触者に分類され、2週間隔離されたはずだ。

チームドクターのホン·ガヨン（金ソンヨン扮）が到着するやいなや多量の水を吐くカン·スチャン。 一見、映画「エイリアン」で宿主の体をくぐって出てきたチェストバスターの姿が重なって見えたりもする。

ホン·ドクターは気道確保のためにメスで空輸燦の首を切り裂き、気管内挿管を試みるが、管を通して噴き出すのは息ではなく水だ。 生まれて初めて見る状況に恐怖と当惑感が湧き上がる。

カン·スチャンを助けようと必死になっているホン·ドクターと、これをガラスの壁一つを挟んで見守る隊員らは、依然として防疫服もマスクもしていない状態だ。 先に目撃した溺死体に対する情報は、すでに頭から離れて久しい。

彼らは絶えず水を吐かせる「あれ」の存在が何なのか、感染経路や原因が何なのか把握できなかったにもかかわらず、防疫服やマスク、ヘルメットなど最小限の保護手段を用意するどころか、死んでいく人を見ることを嘆くのが全てだ。

遅ればせながら防疫服や化学生物放射能マスクを着用したが、後の祭りとしか見られない。

■「感染」のためには仕方がない装置だったが..

2017年に公開された映画「エイリアン:カヴァナント」でもこれと似ている場面がある。 地球の荒廃化により人類が住める他の惑星に向かっていた艦船が急な宇宙暴風を迎え、自動走行を止めることになる。

冷凍水面にのめり込み、あと数百年寝込んで元の目的地に向かうか否かをめぐってぶつかった隊員たちは「地球とそっくりな環境の惑星」と偶然向き合うことになる。

本来、目的地に行くよりは探査でもしてみようという意見が優位を占め、少数の隊員が不慣れな惑星に旅立つ。 そして、大気環境が地球と似ているという理由でヘルメットを脱ぐミスを犯す。

隊員の一部は直ちに生命体の体を宿主とする寄生生命体に汚染され、隊員は艦船全体を危険にさらすことになる。

静かなる海、劇の進行のために隊員たちを危険にさらすしかなかったが、もう少し蓋然性のある方法を選んでいたらどうだっただろうか。 一方、気楽で速い道を選んだ作家の限界に見えたりもする。

■月水とは何か?

人類生存の鍵を握る'月水'は月から発見された資源だ。

分子構造は違うが、水と似たような形、特性を持っていて決定的な違いがあるとすれば、生命体内で絶えず分裂し幾何級数的に増えるということだ。 宿主が生命活動を止めれば、月水も動きを止める。

感染経路は多分「目」。 渤海基地のあちこちに描かれた目の絵と、カン·スチャンの目に水死体から噴き出した謎の物体が入った後、症状が発現した点。 リュ·テソク（イ·ジュン扮）の目に月水が入ってから感染した点、金魚の目に月水を入れた点などから、目を通じて感染メカニズムが作用しているようだ。

また血と出会っても分裂を続ける。 ソン·ジアンの血と結合して次第に分裂して体積を大きくしたことと、イ·ウォン（次世代型の分）の切断された腕から噴き出した血と反応して渤海基地全体を越水で満たした点を見ると、血との反応が最も激しいと推定される。

ただ疑問なのは、最初死亡したカン·スチャンの体内血液はすべて水に変化したが、底を濡らすほどだけ月数が分裂してしまった。 しかし、過剰出血によって死亡したこの原因によって、月数は分裂を続け、巨大な基地を埋め尽くす。 二つのケースにどのような差があるかはミステリーだ。

月収を人間に適用させることはできないが、人間を月収に適用させることができた遺伝子組み替え技術の発展も疑問だ。

月水一つで5年間を食糧なしに生き延び、深い傷も癒すだけでなく、酸素のない月の表面でまともに生きている生命体を作り出した技術が水だと作れなかったのだろうか。

宇宙で最も多い元素は水素、ヘリウム、酸素、炭素、ネオン、鉄の順だ。 地球上空400キロ地点で毎日地球を16周ずつ回っている国際宇宙ステーション（ISS）では、太陽光パネルを利用して呼吸に必要な酸素を作り、二酸化炭素と水素で飲み水を作り出す。

水素と二酸化炭素を結合させながら水（H2O）とメタン（CH4）が発生するが、このメタンは活性炭に吸着し、水を飲んだり洗ったりするのに活用する。 静かなる海 世界の技術力では少なくとも飲み水でも作るのが難しかっただろうか。 こうなれば、まともな科学諮問を求めたのかも疑問だ。

視覚的な作り方はほとんど指摘するところがないほど立派だが、ストーリーと設定に開いた穴は'勝利号'の時と似たような既視感が感じられる作品だ。

■ Water scarcity, human dignity divided into grades

Set in the near future, 2075, a fictional Earth, The Silent Sea depicts the Earth experiencing a serious crisis due to a global 'water shortage'.

A world in which humans are divided into grades and water is distributed accordingly, the cry of the proletarians claiming to abolish the grading system next to those who lined up in front of the water distribution station, and the appearance of dystopia looking through a yellow filter is a desperate sight ahead of the extinction of the species. illuminate the situation.

While all countries are focused on securing 'water', a resource essential for survival, a number of team members, including Dr. Song Jian (Bae Doo-na), and Han Yun-jae (Gong Yoo), an expedition leader, are working on a special 'sample' at the Balhae base located on the moon. ■ Are you a veteran or an amateur?

The expedition crews who went to the moon are obviously experts in their respective fields, and they are talented people who have gone through an elite training course.

Seeing the drowned body found at the entrance of the Balhae base, and the dead body drowning in a place where there is no water, the super-elite crew spit out absurd lines of "I must have died happily" rather than questioning it.

Not only that. Dr. Song Jian, a whopping 'space biologist', shows the courage to take off her helmet as soon as she arrives at the Balhae base, telling her that her radiation level is normal. Even though the base was once operated as a research facility, more than five years have passed since no people lived there.

Although there may be some risk factors, he voluntarily takes off his helmet and takes a provocative attitude toward the expedition leader Han Yun-jae. Have we forgotten that our mission is to bring the 'sample' safely to Earth through cooperation rather than competition?

Disobeying the command of the expedition leader and acting alone seems to be at a good level, and in the drama, the teamwork and coping abilities of the crew members are so defenseless, the question "Why the hell?" does not leave their minds.

Even when dozens of bodies that appear to have died of drowning have been found, they continue their exploration without taking any safety measures.

■ Please follow the quarantine rules

Gong Su-chan (Jung Soon-won), exposed to a mysterious substance while collecting samples, suffers from hallucinations of seeing a starfish and collapses. At a glance, it seems obvious that something is hurting, but the crew members who are full of camaraderie never leave his side.

Now, they would have been classified as close contacts of a person infected with COVID-19 and would have been quarantined for two weeks.

Gong Su-chan vomits a lot of water as soon as team doctor Hong Ga-young (Kim Seon-young) arrives. At first glance, the image of the chest buster that pierced the host's body in the movie Alien overlaps.

Dr. Hong cuts Gong Su-chan's neck with a scalpel to secure an airway and tries to intubate the trachea, but what is gushing out through the tube is water, not breath. Fear and embarrassment soar to a situation that I see for the first time in my life.

Doctor Hong, who is struggling to save Gong Su-chan, and the crew watching it through a glass wall are still not wearing protective clothing or masks. Information about the drowning body witnessed earlier has long since left my mind.

Even though they could not figure out the existence of that thing that makes them constantly vomit, the route of infection or the cause, they did not prepare the minimum protective measures such as protective clothing, masks, or helmets, all they felt sorry for when they saw people dying.

He wears a quarantine suit and a chemo prevention mask only later, but he only sees the behavior of losing cows and fixing the barn.

■ It must have been an unavoidable device for 'infection'

There is a similar scene in the 2017 movie Alien: Covenant. Due to the devastation of the Earth, a ship heading to another habitable planet encounters a sudden cosmic storm and stops automatically driving.

After falling into a frozen surface and sleeping for several hundred more years, the crew members, who were struggling to decide whether to go to their original destination or not, come across a 'planet with an environment similar to that of the Earth' quite by chance.

Rather than going to the original destination, the opinion that it should be explored once dominates, and a small number of members leave for an unfamiliar planet. And they make the mistake of taking off their helmets because the atmospheric environment is similar to that of Earth.

Some of the crew are immediately contaminated by parasitic creatures that host the body of living things, and the crew endangers the entire ship.

The Silent Sea or Alien had no choice but to expose their crew to danger for the sake of the play, but what if they had taken a more probable method? On the one hand, it is seen as a limitation of the artist who chose the easy and fast path.

■ What is moon water?

'Moonwater', which holds the key to human survival, is a resource discovered on the moon.

Although the molecular structure is different, it has similar appearance and characteristics to water, but if there is a crucial difference, it divides endlessly inside living things and grows exponentially. When the host stops vital activity, the moon also stops moving.

The route of infection is probably 'eyes'. The symptoms developed after a mysterious object ejected from a drowned body entered the eyes of Suchan Gong and pictures of eyes painted here and there in the Balhae base. Judging from the fact that moon water got into the eyes of Ryu Tae-seok (Lee Joon) and then got infected, and that moon water was put into the eyes of the goldfish, it seems that the infection mechanism works through the eyes.

It also continues to divide even when it comes into contact with blood. The reaction with blood is the best, considering that it was combined with Song Ji-an's blood and gradually divided and increased in volume, and that it reacted with the blood spouted from Lee Won's (Cha Rae-hyung) amputated arm and filled the entire Balhae base with moon water.
